7th Horseless Carriage Club
Bathurst, NSW, Australia
Friday 30th August to Friday 6th September, 2019
We are proud to announce that we are running an International tour for all pre 1916 vehicles in Bathurst, NSW August 30th - September 6th 2019.
With the support of Bathurst Regional Council, the headquarters for the event will be the famous Mt Panorama Raceway, utilising its pit area and corporate facilities. Information will be updated on the tour web page in the next couple of months.
Itinerary coming together
With just over 8 months to go, the 7 day tour is starting to take shape. Bathurst has some hilly areas and as we can’t “move towns and attractions” closer together, there will be a couple of long days. So please consider leaving your small cars at home!
There will be the opportunity to drive "The Track" one the shakedown tour, if you can drive the Mt Panorama track you can do anything on the tour.
Chris and I have had a number of visits to Bathurst and the "how & where's" are falling into place nicely. Bathurst Regional Council have been more than helpful and the enthusiasm for the event coming to the region is wonderful to see.
Runs will be between 80 – 130km. Don't nail my foot to the floor! but this is what it is looking like at the moment.
Thursday: Optional: Bus pick up in Sydney for International guests (see Below)
Friday: Registration in the garage area of Pit Straight (10-5). A short shake down run at about 2.00pm around Bathurst getting familiarised with the town & region. This will be followed by the official Mayoral Reception at the National Motor Racing Museum. adjacent to Pit Straight and 200 meters from the Rydges Hotel.
Saturday: Millthorpe (morning Tea) Lucknow & Orange (Lunch) Followed by Date Night! (watch this space!)
Sunday: Fathers day! Short orientation run around Bathurst, then "Show & Shine" in Pit Straight. The National Race museum, as part of their Father’s Day event, is selling track rides in both original 70's and retro race cars, incl the Famous Ford GT, Holden 327 Monaro and Mini Cooper-S. For the ladies a Period Costume hat making seminar and workshop.
Please note that there will be wonderful photo opportunities from both the Winner's Podium & the overhead bridge at Hell Corner of all the cars in Pit Straight so have your camera's.
Monday: Scenic drive to Tarana (morning tea), then Oberon (Lunch) followed by dinner and movies
Tuesday: Period Costume Day!: A short tour to Abercrombie House for morning tea followed a picnic lunch on "sky line" at the top of the mountain. Then assemble in the main street of Bathurst at 4.00pm for markets in the Court House courtyard and a Gas Light Parade at dusk. Period Costume would be great for this event. Plenty of food on offer and dinner at one of the many pubs & restaurants.
Wednesday: Mayfield Gardens, Followed by the 2nd of our seminars, this one in the Garage complex on Pit Straight.
Thursday: Georges Plains, Newbridge (morning tea) Blayney (Lunch). Followed by the 2nd of our seminars, this one in the Garage complex on Pit Straight.
Friday: Short tour, allowing the afternoon to pack up cars and get ready for the Formal (yes Formal or period costume) dinner in the Corporate reception area up stairs in Pitt Straight.
Saturday: farewell breakfast and an opportunity to thank the volunteers!
Sunday: Those that are participating in the Bathurst to Bundy tour will assemble and depart after breakfast.
As you can see a busy fun filled event.
As per the last Newsletter
I've been asked many a time "do I have to ship a car over?" Short answer No, there are several options
- Swaggie - the Aussie term for visitors hitching a ride in a Brass Era Auto!
International entrants are reminded that you do not need to have a car "Down under" - whilst we will assist with the logistics of shipping vehicles to and from Australia, the "Swaggie" option is alive and well and many people will welcome "swaggies" into their car for the day or duration of the tour. Pack your bags and come anyway!
A number of people have enquired if they could purchase a car (Model T or other), use it for 1 or all 3 tours and then sell it and the simple answer is yes, there are always Brass Era cars for sale here. Generally speaking T's or Cadillac's have a reasonable amount of "spares" available, just in case of some unfortunate touring problems.
International Visitors gathering in Sydney
We suggest if you are travelling to Sydney internationally that you arrive a few days earlier and take the time to visit many of our iconic tourist locations, including the Rocks (modern Australia's birth place), the Sydney Opera House & Harbour Bridge. You can also take a trip on the famous Sydney harbour (a ferry trip to Manly is a great idea), Centre Point Tower and many of the great museums and attractions in Sydney.
I've had plenty of requests on getting everyone together in Sydney and heading together to Bathurst.
So at this very early stage we are proposing to have everyone meet at Central Railway Station at the bus zone on Eddie Avenue (any cab will get you to Eddie Ave, Central) at 10.00am Thursday 29th August.
If there are sufficient numbers (minimum 30 per bus) we will organise a guided bus trip to Bathurst, via Featherdale Wildlife Park where you can:
Feed a Kangaroo, & Emu
Cuddle a Koala,
Pat a Crocodile (and admire a 15 foot "Saltie" from a distance)
See Tassie Devils, Quolls, Bilby's & Wombats
View some of the most poisonous snakes in the world from the safety of a glass pane.
Visit Featherdale @
The bus would then travel to the Quarantine facility to pick up any Brass Era Cars that are going to be driven to Bathurst, then travel over the Blue Mountains to Katoomba to see the 3 Sisters and Megalong Valley probably staying at the famous Carrington Hotel over night and then on to Bathurst via the historic Hydro Majestic for morning tea.
